Metallurgy+ aims to improve the game by making metal smelting and production more varied and interesting. Focus is on abstracting real-world processes and enriching gameplay by providing different production chains with their own trade-offs. (And it removes iron plates.)
Please note that this mod is currently in an alpha state. This means this mod can and will change in the future. Savegame compatibility between version will not be guaranteed.
It is recommended to start a new game with this mod. Updates to this mod or the game might break your saves, so do not get attached to them. Do not add it to any game that you wish to keep as it can not be easily removed afterwards.
Steel production without any blast furnace in sight.
Current features:
- Reworked iron production chain.
- No more iron plates, everything uses steel plates.
- New machines, the blast furnace isn't used for everything.
- New products like charcoal and coke.
- New and changed research nodes, partially to improve game progression, partially to make the new content visible.
- There is more than one way to produce steel, with different trade-offs, if I've done the balancing right.
- Somewhat useful side products.
- Tutorial goals are fully adapted for the mod.
More research to do.
Possible future features:
- More uses for side products.
- Better integration into the other production chains.
- Reworks of other metal production chains, especially the older ones like e.g. copper.
Almost breaks the UI...
New compatibility options in version 0.4.0
I've just released version 0.4.0 of the Metallurgy+ mod, which contains two config options to improve compatibility with other mods.
- The first option allows to keep the iron plate casting recipe. All default (vanilla) game recipes will still be modified to use steel only, even if this option is on, but with it, you can still use other mods that require iron plates. No effort is made in regards to game balance.
- The second option is more experimental: if enabled, the mod tries to rewrite all recipes, no matter which mod defines them, to use steel only. This will only work for recipes that are defined normally and might miss things that are modified by other means, like e.g. Harmony runtime patches. Additionally, no effort is made to prevent effective recipe duplicates if a mod ships both iron and steel recipes.
Support for the coming Update 4.2
The just uploaded version 0.3.0 has support for the upcoming 4.2 update.
Do not update your mod until the update officially releases or you are playing on the experimental Steam branch.
