Is there no way to activate the mode in my current save file?
Do I need to create a new save to activate the mod?

Hello!
You can activate the mod by pressing load save instead of continue. And at bottom right you have "Mods & DLC's" click that one and add the speed++ or any other mod to load it to your save. =)
